“LGBTQ might sound like alphabet soup, until one of them letters lifts you like a lift raft and makes some of this life make sense. But nothing makes sense in this system that wants me to pretend I’m cis so they can house me, so they help me, how’s that helping? I’m already homeless. Don’t make me soul-less. Don’t make me lie, so I’m easier to deal with. Can’t get help unless I pretend to be someone I’m not, which is the reason why I’m in this mess in the first place”

One in five LGBTQ+ people have experienced homelessness, with rates even higher among the trans community (25%). Sofa-surfing is also becoming more common, with 77% of LGBTQ+ young people citing family rejection, abuse, or being asked to leave home as the cause of their homelessness.
