No Walls, Still Trapped
A story of homelessness and the criminal justice system. Over a game of Scrabble, we hear Terry’s story - a stark reminder of a broken system that shows no signs of change by Citz Member and spoken word artist, Errol McGlashan/Uncle Errol, performed by Michael Quartey.
"When Terry was released with no fixed abode i.e. homeless he was given a £76 discharge grant… A tent and a fucking sleeping bag! Poor guy never stood a chance"
Each year, 50,000 people are released from prison, and more than half are released without settled accommodation. This is a concern because 1 in 3 prison leavers face homelessness or uncertain living conditions. Without a safe place to stay, they are around 50% more likely to reoffend and end up back in prison.
